Give Paula Deen a Break

It's the media rage these days, starting with Today Show's no show interview where Paula Deen, newly fired from the Food Network from her admitted use of the "N" word in a deposition during a lawsuit. NBC's Matt Lauer made a big deal out of this interview no-show.

All this seemed a bit overdone to me so I did a little checking for the "rest" of the story.

In her deposition, which was taken May 17, Deen said she used the word after a black man had held a gun to her head during a robbery at the bank where she worked at the time.
I found a link to it on her hometown newspaper website. http://savannahnow.com/deposition-paula-deen

When your life is being threatened, doesn't that deserve a little slack in what you might say to your attacker? How many people who speak the language are innocent of this "N" word crime? I say N stands for NONE in this case.

Give her a break.

Gee... I hadn't heard about this (Pg 21-23 in deposition) and thanks for sharing. I agree. They are making a big deal out of this. By the way, has Rev.Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson been fired or castigated for their over-the-top racist comments? How about Jamie Foxx with his, "... kill all the white people" comment?

Exactly...How about Spike Lee and RoseAnne Barr who twitted the home address of Zimmerman's parents? Seems they should have been charged with a hate crime! Mr. Lee's attorneys had him pay off the parents within 2-3 days of the tweet.

From words to thoughts then thinking will become illegal. Where are we going as a race if not to extinction by our own stupidity

Have you read the complaint? This isn't about a single utterance of an offensive word many years ago. In fact, this is about years and years of racist and sexual harassment, with numerous witnesses. Seems you have some homework to do. After you've gotten up to speed then maybe you can write about a topic. Till then, I suggest you hold your tongue.

Hey Sister, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Anyone can lodge a complaint. Lawyers make their living deposing and trying cases. Deen lost her endorsements from Walmart, Food Network, and others because of admitting to her use of the "N" word in a deposition and she apologized for that on national tv. It might surprise you that usage of the "N" word is common among certain groups, some of which have said the penalty to her went too far. You didn't hold your tongue, why should I?

To clarify, usage of the "N" word is common among certain groups that have claimed it offends but only if it's spoken by members of other racial groups.

Was Mark Twain a racist?
