A Swampyville Spring!
By L. Don Oliver

In my seventy third Spring,
The squirrels are digging up their _____;
The little sparrow is on the wing,
The honeybee and hummingbird about to _____;

The Blue Heron is on it's perch,
Waiting for a tasty meal to swim __;
The flowers are unfolding their blooms,
Where the warbling wrens still ___;

A black racer snake chasing a lizard,
The fish are leaping in the _____;
A frog croaking upon a lily pad,
The hungry bear departs it's ____;

An unconcerned cold blooded Alligator,
Lazily sunning upon a fallen ____;
A large clump of water hyacinths,
floating to where they shouldn't __;

Fishing with an old cane pole,
Watching the cork bobbing _____;
Lifting the line from the water,
No worry that the bait is ____;

Remembering a far away youth,
Searching for a four leaf ______;
Perhaps one day I will find it,
Before this existence is ____;

The leaves are shading green,
The cypress trees are growing ____;
I will enjoy every approaching spring,
Until, for me, there is none at ___;

Freedom's Wake!
By L. Don Oliver

Standing by a grave stone,
History etched upon it's face;
One who sacrificed his all,
Is now lying in disgrace;

He heard the beating of a drum,
The beckoning call of a fife;
Never once thinking of himself,
He went forth to pledge his life;

Into the Valley of the Damned,
No thought to his own affair;
For God, family and country,
He dared to venture there;

Now, he is purposely forgotten,
Lying in a field overgrown with weeds;
No one there to salute his valor.
Too busy with their own selfish needs;

We are in the Progressive's fold,
Where Freedom has become passe;
What we once could say before,
Today, we dare not say;

When Internationalism seals it's place,
And Nationalism is without any call;
We have only ourselves to blame,
For this Republic's eventual fall;
