It may not come as much of a surprise to find out that, these days, people don’t spend all that much time outside. Now, there are several reasons why this might be. For instance, a large number of people live in cities and may not have access to parks or other areas to spend time outdoors in. Or, it could be due to the fact that these days, people are overly occupied with their digital lives, leaving less time to enjoy nature.

Now, it is easy to wonder if it really is all that important to head outside on a regular basis? After all, as long as you exercising in a gym or your own home do you really need to venture outdoors? The answer to this is a resounding yes! Not only are there a lot of things to do outside, In case you aren’t convinced, check out all of these reasons that you should go outside.

Reduces Your Stress Levels

Now, there’s no denying that you feel better, simply breathing in nature, for a bit. What the science shows, however, is that it has an actual physiological impact as well. Cortisol is a hormone that is released during stressful times and can have a number of negative impact on your health, including a lowered immune system. Spending time in a natural environment can actually lower your cortisol levels considerably. So, if you are looking for a stress reliever, you should definitely head outside.

Improves Your Immune Function

Do you find yourself in bed with the sniffles every other week or are you the first one to always get sick? Well, the culprit may be the fact that you are staying inside too much. Heading out into nature can help quite a bit in this area as well. In fact, all that you have to do is just experience wide open green spaces and you can ward off quite a few number of illnesses. This includes everything from cardiovascular diseases to diabetes. Also, while the research is relatively new on this, there are chances that spending more time in the wilderness could lower your chance of developing cancer.

Prevents Vitamin D deficiency

On a similar note, heading outside during the day can also ensure that you get enough vitamin D. of course, this should be done sensibly and you shouldn’t stay out in the sun without sunscreen for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Since most foods don’t have nearly enough vitamin D, the sun is often your best source. By making sure that you get the proper amount of vitamin D, you allow your body to absorb the calcium that it requires for strong bones and teeth.

Enhances Brain Functioning

Do you feel like you are slowing down in your daily life? Among all of the other things that nature can help you with, it can help you to feel rejuvenated and restored. This, in turn, can help to improve your attention span and to concentrate for longer. Similarly, your short-term memory will also improve. You will find that it is easier to remember things that you learn and will be less forgetful.

Losing Pounds is Simpler

Let’s face it, workouts aren’t all that fun which is why people tend to give it up after only a short while. However, when you are traipsing through nature, though, it doesn’t really feel like work. So, you are able to exercise more and lose weight more easily. If you are headed to somewhere with high altitude, you may find that there are even more benefits, even if you are only there for a short time. One of the advantages of climbing is that your metabolism speeds up.

If you are wasting time, being cooped up indoors, it is time to change all of that. Go to a park, head down to the beach, or make weekend plans to go camping in the forest. All of these small changes can add up to you being much healthier in the long run.
