The 2016 Tour of Britain route has been revealed and spectators are ecstatic about it. With plenty of areas for fan interaction, plenty of challenges, and of course, the hottest riders taking part in the race, it promises to be a race not to forget this year. This year marks the 12th race and it occurs from September 4th through the 11th this year and one big name has been revealed – Wiggins plans to attend the Tour of Britain and we are sure, many other stars will make the fans line the streets to cheer on their favorite athlete.

Day 1

Day one of the Tour of Britain begins in Glasgow. This is the first year since 2008 that Glasgow has held the starting stage for the Tour of Britain and it promises to be an exciting event for this reason alone! From the opening, riders will continue south and work their way towards Castle Douglas in Dumfries, which has not been a part of the race since 2006.

Day 2

Day two of the race promises to split the competition up quickly taking them from Carlisle to Kendal. Riding through Cumbria, Whinlatter Pass, and The Struggle, riders will need their endurance, strength, and proper bike gear to get through this tough day. With a gradient measuring 8.2 percent and a difficult uphill completion for the day, riders will definitely earn their spots on this hard day. Many riders will choose POC gear, of which POC's AVIP road cycling gear won a design award, to get through the rough terrain of the day.

Day 3

Day three of the race takes riders 182km from Congleton to Tatton Park, Knutsford. The roads here are heavy, despite their lower gradient measuring 3.2 percent. The experts believe that fans will gather at Tatton Park because they will be able to see the race twice in the viewer-friendly loop.

Day 4

Day four of the race measures the longest stretch thus far at 217km, taking riders from Denbigh to Builth Wells. Day four is being predicted as the hardest day of the race, requiring riders to properly choose their bike clothing, nutrition, and mindset to get through this day. In addition to being the longest distance, it has the greatest amount of climbs, giving riders a run for their money as they hit the midway point in the race. This is the point in the race when proper road bike helmets come in very handy as the race intensifies and more and more accidents occur.

Day 5

Day five of the race measures close behind day four at 205km. Riders will go from Aberdare to Bath. Riders will go through Wales on this stage, ending in the beautiful city of Bath.

Day 6

Day six takes riders on a slightly shorter ride of 150km, but that does not mean it will be easy. Going from Sidmouth to Haytor, Dartmoor, this route has been done before, with Wiggins winning the race in the end. Even though it is a shorter distance, it promises to give riders a serious challenge, which experts believe will make it another hotspot for spectators as they take in the race.

Day 7

Day seven is a time when fates are decided during the Tour of Britain 2016. There are two races – one in the AM and one in the PM. The AM race is an individual time trial that takes place over a 15km distance with an incredible 9 percent gradient. The afternoon marks the Bristol Circuit Race which measures 76.5km and takes place over 5 laps, covering some of the same difficult territory of the morning.

Day 8

The final day is hosted once again in London. In fact, the finish will look identical to last year, completing on Regent Street St James. The London Circuit Race completes the race, determining the winner of the 2016 Tour of Britain.

Preparing for the Race

Preparing for a race, whether it is the 2016 Tour of Britain or a local race in your area, it is important to get yourself ready many months beforehand with proper exercise, nutrition, and strength building. Riding long distances takes great endurance, strength, and a strong mind. Learning how bike riding benefits your health will help you realize just how important it is to properly plan for this type of exercise. Just like the pros that use the AVIP collection by POC for pro cyclists, you can choose proper gear as well to ensure that you are safe and comfortable as you prepare for the big race.

Make sure not to miss this year’s Tour of Britain as well as to prepare for your own races. Use the excitement of this year’s big race to get yourself going with the right bike gear and proper safety equipment to ensure a safe and pleasurable ride this year.
